City in Color: The Work of Lisa Marie Barber
August 28 - September 18
Exhibition reception: Friday, September 4, 3-7pm
Gallery talk with Lisa Marie Barber : Friday, September 4th, 4pm
In this solo exhibition, contemporary artist Lisa Marie Barber shows work of several layers-- both physical and conceptual-- that describes life within the urban landscape as positive, elusive and rich with sentiment. Her compositions use imagery from city life: with paint, fiber and ceramics, she crafts objects densely arranged as if around an improvised, decorated shrine. When a viewer is enveloped by these collections of objects, the life-size figures suggest the human condition. The artist is inspired by the urban landscape because it is human existence manifest.
Lisa M arie Barber is Assistant Professor of Art-Ceramics at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
