33 Annual Juried Show: Consumerism & Contemporary Culture
April 21-May 19, 2005
Opening Reception, April 21 5-8pm

Every day Americans are bombarded with thousands of advertisements and products to buy, eat and consume. The objects we pursue are in constant contact with each aspect of contemporary life. In fact, it seems as though consumerism and consumption envelop us in the same way that culture does. In this year's 33rd Annual Juried Student Art Competition student artists explore the theme of culture and consumerism in the 21 st Century. Through broad terms and a variety of materials they question the need to be validated by what we buy and what we spend. The artwork will be juried by local art professionals: Mike Brenner, President of MARN & Director of Hotcakes Gallery; Annemarie Sawkins, Ph.D., Associate Curator at the Haggerty Museum of Art and Mark Lawson , MIAD's Galleries Director .
