In these side-by-side solo exhibitions, Lauren Grossman and Prophet William Blackmon create work that reflects their interpretations and reflections on Christian faith and the Bible. Seattle artist Grossman dives into the verses and stories of the Bible and pulls out passages that she transforms into visual representations of the words. Grossman's work addresses the ubiquitousness of Christian meanings and iconography in western thought. Grossman's work is fluid and associative, encouraging the viewer to interact with the pieces while pondering the sustainability of interpretation. In this collection of paintings on loan from Paul Phelps, local artist Prophet William Blackmon's visual interpretations of the Bible exist counter to the intentions of Grossman's sculptures. Blackmon, an evangelist preacher, shares the message of God's word through colorful paintings with social and religious iconography. Blackmon's paintings serve as animated visual sermons that urge humanity to live according to God's will.
