Make Sure Your Computer is Not Setup as a Server - Turn off any file sharing functions or services related to sharing files or serving web pages

Protect your PC and Your Accounts with a good password. A good password is one that cannot be easily guessed. Students should have a good password assigned to the user account on their computer, especially if it is an administrator account!

Bring all system CD-ROMs with your computer- Students should not leave home without the CDs that came with their computers! Many students have to wait to go home and get these CDs or wait for the mail in order to fix their computers; students should be prepared in case something happens to their computer. The 2nd most important disks are the windows operating system CD and the Driver CD. Some computers will only have a Restore CD, so bring that instead. Be prepared and don't forget to backup your files on a regular basis!
