How do I get connect to ResNET quickly?

1. You need a PC Running Windows98/ME/2K/XP or Mac OS9/X with an Ethernet Card (Network Card) and a network cable (which you will receive from the Main Desk).

2. You need to go to the Main Desk and fill out the Network Use Agreement and pay an access fee of $25. This is a one-time fee good for as long as you live in Sandburg. If you paid last year or earlier, you don’t have to pay again. You will receive a blue network cable and this connection sheet.

3. In your room, run the network cable from the Ethernet card port on your computer to the network port in your room.

4. Next, turn on your computer and open your Internet Browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Opera). If everything is working, you will see the ResNET Registration page. You will need to know your email login and password, which the campus assigned you. If you are new to UWM, you should have received a letter in the mail.

5. Fill out the form, wait one minute, and restart your computer. You are connected!

What if I don’t meet those requirements?
If you have a computer but do not have a network card, you can buy one from any store that sells computer equipment (i.e. MilwaukeePC, Walmart or OfficeDepot are within a mile).

We do not support Windows 95, old Mac OS versions, and Linux/Unix. For Windows95, there are special instructions that can be picked up in room C173, Computer Operations.

If you need assistance you can call Computer Operations at (414) 229-4606 between 8:00AM and 4:30PM Monday through Friday.

I meet the requirements but it’s still not working..?
You should use the Cat5 blue cable (RJ45) from the main desk, not a phone cord (RJ11).

South Double
North Double

The first thing you need to check is that you are plugged into the right jack. When you plug the blue cable into your machine, make sure you see lights on your Network card; you may be plugged into the voice line. If you’re not seeing lights, plug into your roommate’s jack and see if you are getting lights. In East Tower, you should be in the ORANGE jack or BLUE HUB.
It may be that your network settings are not set correctly. Make sure that your TCP/IP Network Properties, in the Control Panel, is set for DHCP.
