Safely opening e-mail attachments

You should never open an attachment unless you can answer “YES” to all three of the following conditions:

Do I know exactly what this file is or have a description of the link?

Have I verified the identity of the sender and their intentions via email, IM, or a phone call?

Have I scanned this file with my virus scanner AND have I ensured that my virus scanner was recently updated?
