What is ResNET?
The Sandburg Residence Halls Computer Network, known as ResNET, is your in-room connection to the Internet. It is available in all towers and in Purin Hall. ResNET is your gateway to campus resources and the Internet.
Who do I contact about ResNET?

What hardware do I need to connect to ResNET?
All you need to get connected are:
1.
A computer that has 128MB of memory running Windows 2000/XP Home/XP Professional or MacOS 10.2 (Jaguar) or later
2. An Ethernet card
3. An Ethernet cable (Cat5/Cat6) - a 25 foot Cat5 cable can be purchased at the Main Desk for just $5
What if I don't know my ePantherID?
You will need to get this information from IM&T Lab staff. Take your student ID and go to a Campus Computer Lab, either Bolton 225 or on the 3rd floor of Sandburg Halls across from the Cafeteria. MAKE SURE after your password is changed that you immediately login to a lab computer, check your password, and change it to something else.
What if I do know my ePantherID, but not my password?
You can change your password online even if you don't know what it is. You will need 4 key pieces of information. Just click on this link, and have
your ePantherID, birthdate, Student ID, and Social Security number ready.
I'm buying a new computer, what should I get?
Just about any new computer that you buy will be compatible with ResNET. All you need to make sure is that you have an Ethernet (or network) card installed with your laptop or desktop computer.
One thing to keep in mind is that as a student of UW-Milwaukee your are able to receive vendor discounts. You can find out more about discounts from Apple, Dell, and Gateway HP, and IBM by clicking here.
I don't have a network card, where can I buy one?
Locally, there are 3 options within 2 miles of campus. MilwaukeePC, OfficeDepot, and Walmart all sell Ethernet network cards for desktops and laptops.

I have 2 computers, can I use them both on ResNET?
The policy is that you can only have 1 computer registered on ResNET.
Can I use my Xbox or PS2 on ResNET?
ResNET is an extension of the academic environment at UWM. ResNET is intended to be used for instructional and research purposes. Limited interactive game playing between nodes on the network is permitted, however, game playing is considered a wasteful use of resources. Computer Operations does not support connecting game consoles on ResNET.
Can I use file-sharing programs on ResNET?
ResNET is an extension of the academic environment at UWM. ResNET is intended to be used for instructional and research purposes. This does not limit you from using file-sharing applications. However, if file-sharing programs are not used in a legal and efficient way it may result in loss of access to ResNET. Please read the ResNET Use Agreement before using these programs.
