The Residence Halls Computer Network, known as ResNET, is your in-room connection to the Internet. It is available in all towers and in Purin Hall. ResNET is your gateway to campus resources and the Internet.
Service Expectations: Computer Operations will help students to solve any kind of computer problem for users that have completed the Network Use Agreement. We provide full service in getting residents connected to ResNET. All computers are serviced on a first come first serve basis. For issues not related to ResNET, we provide tools, CDs, documents, and other help in getting problems resolved quickly.
Installation Order: There is always a high volume of computers that need work, especially during move-in. The best way to get your computer on the network is to install it yourself. There is an instruction sheet available at the Main Desk that will step you through the ResNET connection process. The instructions are also available here (PDF.)
Other Issues: For security purposes, UWM runs active scans to find servers, infected or compromised machines, and excessive bandwidth usage inside the residence halls. We reserve the right to remove network connectivity.
Hardware: All you need to get connected is:
-
A computer that has 128MB of memory running Windows 2000/XP Home/XP Professional or MacOS 10.2 (Jaguar) or later.
-
An Ethernet card.
-
An Ethernet (Cat5/Cat6) cable - a 25 foot Cat5 cable can be purchased at the Main Desk for just $5
