Social Support and Relationship Satisfaction in Same-Sex Couples Research Project
Posted on Nov 02 2011
Dear Potential Participant,
I am a graduate student in the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation, and Counseling at Auburn University. I would like to invite you to participate in my research study to explore social support and relationship satisfaction in same-sex couples. You may participate if you are of legal age in the state in which you live, are currently involved in a same-sex romantic relationship, and are out to at least one of your parents or parental figures. You may also participate if you are a parent of an individual who is currently involved in a same-sex romantic relationship.
If you are currently involved in a same-sex romantic relationship, please click on the link that says “LGB survey”. If you are a parent of an individual currently involved in a same-sex romantic relationship, please click on the link that says “Parent survey”.
Participants will be asked to complete a demographic questionnaire and online surveys which will take approximately 15-25 minutes. There will be no costs to you.
All information in the study will be anonymous, and participants are free to discontinue their participation at any time prior to completion with no repercussions. Once you have submitted your participation, there will be no way to identify you with your responses. Even if you do not personally or immediately derive any benefits, we believe that the information you provide will contribute to the way that same-sex relationship satisfaction is investigated and understood. Responding to the questionnaires may increase your sense of connectedness with your community, and could contribute to your sense of self-esteem.
If you would like to know more information about this study, an information letter can be obtained by sending me an email at lco0001@auburn.edu. If you decide to participate after reading the letter, you can access the survey from a link in the letter.
Please also feel free to forward this study onto others who may be qualified to participate as well, though it is not required and will not be tracked to see if you have forwarded the information on or not. There will be no effort made to detect whether you have forwarded this study onto others or whether you have received it from others. There will be no way to identify and connect your responses with anyone you may have received information about this study from or forwarded this information to. In other words, no one will be able to tell if you received the study from another individual or forwarded the information on to another individual. Thus, your decision to participate or not in this study will be anonymous. Again, there will be no way to identify any personal information about any participants, including whether or not you have actually forwarded or received this information from another individual. Nor will the researcher be able to tell if you participate or not if you receive the information about the study directly from the researcher.
