How might we push our creative capacity in order to redefine the boundaries of our reach? The art and design world is rapidly expanding to be inclusive of creative industry intermingling, and ‘design thinking’ has become both a way of life and a call to action for a variety of artists, designers, and their interdisciplinary collaborators.

Crafting Community is a juried exhibition of secondary student ceramic artwork derived from community-themed curricula. This unique exhibition explores how making material objects through ceramic processes can nurture investigations, conversations and complex understandings of issues and themes that emerge from local communities. The culminating exhibition represents the collaborative efforts of UWM art education and ceramics faculty, local K-12 art educators, and their students who have maintained strong relations with our programs as alumni and partners.
April 4 – April 11, 2014
The First Year Program in Art and Design prepares students to be creative, engaged and ready to advance into their chosen areas of study. This program exposes students to studio and community resources as it develops productive relationships, valuable skill sets and a broad awareness of contemporary Art and Design practice.
The Juried Show is a UWM Union Art Gallery tradition. In its 41st year, this incredible exhibition showcases artwork from not only UWM student artists, but a variety of students in Milwaukee metro area colleges and universities. Milwaukee student artists present work in a variety of media including painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media, and more. The exhibition will be juried by a panel of three Milwaukee art industry professionals who will award cash prizes of Best in Show, 1st and 2nd places to three participating artists at the opening reception. Come and peek into the future of the arts by viewing the incredible work of local, emerging student artists from our area.
