Duff, a traveling railroad laborer, romance s and marries Josie, a small-town preacher's daughter while fighting tooth and nail to stay respected as a man. One of Ebony magazine’s Top 10 Black Fi lms of All Time and winner of the San Giorgio Prize at the 1964 Venice Film Festival.
